* Fiche détaillée à déterminer
Red Cherry is a fruit-bearing shrub that produces large, light-red, slightly tart, fragrant berries.
The fruit is rich in antioxidants and vitamin C, and can be eaten fresh or made into jams, jellies or pies. Red cherry is vigorous, highly productive and cold-hardy. It prefers rich, cool, well-drained soil, in sun or part shade.
It flowers in early spring and bears fruit in midsummer.
The currant (genus Ribes) is from the Grossulariaceae family, native to temperate regions of the northern hemisphere.
It likes rich and well drained soil with a good water retention capacity. The ideal PH varies from 6 to 6.5. The addition of organic matter (compost), manure and mulch (renewed every year) will be beneficial to its production.
When it is not yet bearing fruit, a red currant tree can be recognized from a black currant tree by the absence of odor produced by its leaves when crumpled between the fingers.
The currant tree bears red, white and pink fruits.
