One of our favorite currant, Pink Champagne is a compact, attractive shrub with a mid-season harvest.
It bears abundant harvests of large, striking translucent, sweet and delicious pink berries.
Perfect for fresh eating, baking, jellies, pies and jams. The most productive of the pink-fruited gadders. Very resistant to foliage diseases such as mildew.
It is the tastiest currant tree on the market for fresh consumption.
The currant (genus Ribes) is from the Grossulariaceae family, native to temperate regions of the northern hemisphere.
It likes rich and well drained soil with a good water retention capacity. The ideal PH varies from 6 to 6.5. The addition of organic matter (compost), manure and mulch (renewed every year) will be beneficial to its production.
When it is not yet bearing fruit, a red currant tree can be recognized from a black currant tree by the absence of odor produced by its leaves when crumpled between the fingers.
The currant tree bears red, white and pink fruits.
