Description

Haskap Aurora (Lonicera caerulea)

* Detailed file to download

* Cross-pollination compatibility table – HASKAP

Aurora is the preferred cultivar for growers. In Saskatchewan, it is one of the most productive in its class.

The fruit is large, clustered and very visible on the plant, powder blue in color with a small pinkish tinge at the tip.

Unique, its sweet and low acid taste makes it a favorite of many if not all. It is this low acidity that gives it a sweeter taste.

It is ideal for U-pick and mechanical harvesting. Your customers (U-pick or processing) will demand it.

* Variety under license USASK

Generalities Haskap – Lonicera Caerulea

Haskap, an exciting new crop for North America, is particularly well suited for northern areas. Its unique, complex taste is reminiscent of a tasty blend of blueberries, raspberries and blackberries.

Its powder blue to dark blue fruits are elongated and grow on a shrub 4 to 5 feet tall at maturity. Cameos have an extremely high antioxidant value (ORAC) with significant amounts of anthocyanins, polyphenols and bioflavanoids :

The qualities that make it a plant of choice for northern cultivation refer to its high resistance to cold for the shrub (-47 degrees Celsius) and for its flowers (-7 degrees Celsius) as well as its ability to remain dormant during a winter mildness.

The camerisier requires cross-pollination to obtain an optimal yield.
