Isaac is a small shrub with a decorative habit, very productive, producing very large, sweet and tasty fruits. The fruit must be harvested quickly before it starts to fall.
The yields recorded in Lac-St-Jean (Quebec) are from 1 600 to 7 600 kg/ha over 3 years (2007 to 2009).
The saskatoon tree produces a delicious berry called saskatoon or small pear. This beautiful shrub is native to northern climates. It grows best in a sandy loam where water and air flow well.
The plants bloom heavily in the spring and then in July offer a great profusion of purple to blue-purple berry clusters. The fruits have an increased pectin content and are therefore more suitable for jams and jellies.
This shrub grows best in full sun and its fruits are very popular with birds. The saskatoon will have a better fruit set if another variety is planted nearby. The installation of an irrigation system will optimize the yields, especially in periods of drought.
