The currant (genus Ribes) is from the Grossulariaceae family, native to temperate regions of the northern hemisphere.<\/p>\n
It likes rich and well drained soil with a good water retention capacity. The ideal PH varies from 6 to 6.5. The addition of organic matter (compost), manure and mulch (renewed every year) will be beneficial to its production.<\/p>\n
When it is not yet bearing fruit, a red currant tree can be recognized from a black currant tree by the absence of odor produced by its leaves when crumpled between the fingers.<\/p>\n
