Doctor Maxine Thompson is professor emeritus of the University of Oregon’s Horticulture Department. She is one of the key Haskap experts in the United States. Her varieties originate in northern Japan. She concentrates her research on drawing the best Japanese characteristics of the Haskap cultivars – large oval berries with uniform maturation.

The Tana variety produces 2 cm long, mild and savoury fruits. It yields up to 5 pounds of fruits per plant after 4-5 years of growth. This is a late-season variety that is suitable for mechanical harvest. The berries are oval-shaped.
