Doctor Maxine Thompson is professor emeritus of the University of Oregon’s Horticulture Department. She is one of the key Haskap experts in the United States. Her varieties originate in northern Japan. She concentrates her research on drawing the best Japanese characteristics of the Haskap cultivars – large oval berries with uniform maturation.

The Chito variety produces delicious, mild-tasting berries. This mid-season variety is quite suitable for mechanical harvest. After 4-5 years of growth, the plants can produce up to 8-9 lbs. of oval-shaped fruits up to 2 cm in length.
