* Cross-pollination compatibility table – HASKAP
Boreal Blizzard is new for 2017. This improved cultivar produces fruit that is almost twice the size of Indigo Gem, weighing 2.8 to 3.9 grams.
The exceptional flavor of its pungent sweet fruit and the size of its large, fleshy, heavy fruit caught the attention of the hybridizer. This late cultivar offers firm fruit suitable for mechanized harvesting. The vigorous, mildew and sunburn resistant plant offers excellent yields at a later harvest time than the Indigo series.
It is 100% compatible with Boreal Beast but can be compatible with Honey Bee and Indigo series.
Boreal Blizzard’ berries are firmer than ‘Indigo Gem’ and many growers mechanically harvest this variety but plan to harvest early in the morning before it gets too hot.
Haskap, an exciting new crop for North America, is particularly well suited for northern areas. Its unique, complex taste is reminiscent of a tasty blend of blueberries, raspberries and blackberries.
Its powder blue to dark blue fruits are elongated and grow on a shrub 4 to 5 feet tall at maturity. Cameos have an extremely high antioxidant value (ORAC) with significant amounts of anthocyanins, polyphenols and bioflavanoids :
The qualities that make it a plant of choice for northern cultivation refer to its high resistance to cold for the shrub (-47 degrees Celsius) and for its flowers (-7 degrees Celsius) as well as its ability to remain dormant during a winter mildness.
The camerisier requires cross-pollination to obtain an optimal yield.
