Mr. Bob Bors, of the University of Saskatchewan, has developed a very promising Haskap series. Indeed, the Boreal series, which includes the Beauty, Blizzard and Beast varieties, will produce berries weighing between 1.86 and 2.81 grams, twice the size of Indigo berries!
The hybridizer focussed on two essential aspects when developing the Boreal series: the upright habit of the shrubs, and their adaptability for mechanical harvest. Those two characteristics have an impact on pruning times and harvest methods for our producers.
