Dwarf sour cherries / Prunus fruticosa × P. cerasus / Cerisier nain SK

The sk dwarf cherry series produces magnificent fruit shrubs of the morel cherry type, boasting qualities that make it ideal for fruit production.

It is a dwarf shrub that reaches 2 to 2.5 metres at maturity. It is extremely hardy (-40 Celsius) and produces a large, high quality fruit. Sweet, good-sized berries that are dark red at maturity. Abundant yield, fruit is well adapted to mechanical harvesting. 

The sk series is the rsult of a 50-years research project in Canada.

Carmine Jewel

Carmin Jewel produces an abundant quantity of smallish cherries. Fruit has a high flesh to pit ratio and is the earliest of the sk series to be harvested. The cherries are ready to pick when they are dark red in colour. Its sugar content when ripe is 17 Brix. Consistently high yield.



Roméo

Romeo produces an abundant quantity of attractive fruit, a bit larger than Carmine Jewel; harvested late. Recommended for fruit juices and alcoholic beverages, and for the fresh market. Fruit is picked when it is very dark red, nearly black. Sugar content when ripe is 22 Brix making it one of the sweetest varieties.



Valentine

Valentine produces heavily at mid-season. Medium-sized fruit used for processing. Recommended for pies, needs no food colouring. Medium-red colour when ripe, with a sugar content of 15 Brix.



Crimson Passion

Crimson Passion produces an average yield. Ideally suited to fresh consumption or processing. Good-sized fruit, nearly the alrgest of this series, second only to Cupid. Fruit is ready to be harvested when it turns dark red, when its sugar content is 22 Brix.

Juliet is deally suited to both the fresh market and processing. Average yield, produces ,edium-sized fruit. Fruit is ready to pick when dark red with a sugar content of 20 Brix in 2009, wich is the highest in the prairies.



Cupid

Cupid is used both for the fresh market and for processing. Average yield, but produces the larges fruit of all sour cherries. Pronounced cherry flavour, well balanced flavour for fresh consumption. Ripens the lastred of these varieties; ready to pick when fruit is dark red to black. Its sugar content is upwards if 19 Brix. Too large for commercial sour cherry pitters.
